Colts Neck, NJ Weight Loss Problem Weight loss programs are a dime a dozen. Medical weight loss programs involve the use of drugs. Other weight loss programs involve the use of pills or calorie deprivation that ends up being so difficult to follow that failure is inevitable. Even if someone does achieve their weight loss goal by a certain date, the ability to follow it and maintain their achievement for the rest of their lives is not possible. Its also ironic how individuals do not realize the amount of calories they burn in exercise is not as much as they think. Most burn in reality only a couple hundred calories in a visit to the gym. This couple hundred calories’ effort is wasted when one now rewards themselves with a calorie dense and most likely sugar laden treat. Weight Loss Solution A wise man once told me that for every problem I had to bring him two solutions. Most likely he was getting frustrated with my persistence in asking questions. On the flip side, instead of giving me a fish, he taught me how to fish. Each year if you file taxes, most likely you use an advanced but simple piece of tax filing software. Your body is one. You do not get a second body. So why do you believe you know it all and despite previous failures where no lesson was really learned, that you will do the same thing again and believe this time will be any different? The Plan
First and foremost let’s stop going for weight loss. Weight loss makes no sense and I will explain why. I have seen many individuals over the years who are around the ideal body weight. However, they have a body fat percentage over 30%+ They can lose more weight, perhaps water and muscle and bone density. They may hit their weight loss goal and look great in a pair of tight jeans or leggings but in reality they are now extremely unhealthy. Would you rather be healthy and look fit or unhealthy and look fit? My BMI like many experienced athletes says I am obese. I am faster and have more endurance than ever in my life. I can jump higher than ever in my life. My labs are better than they were when I was 25 while now I am 38. As people age, there’s a natural tendency for sarcopenia (muscle loss) due to reduced physical activity. With less physical activity and less muscle mass, ones metabolic rate drops. Only a five pound reduction in muscle leads to a decrease in burning 250 calories per day. Over time, this reduction in calorie burning with the same lifestyle will lead to a significant increase of body fat and decreased health. If all held steady, this decrease of five pounds of muscle would equate to a 26 pound increase of fat over the course of a year. That’s insane! But unfortunately this happens a lot. So what is the key? What is the key to losing body fat? The key is to regain your metabolism you had as a youth. You can achieve this by regaining and improving upon lost and unrealized muscle mass. With proper exercise stimulus, previously dormant muscle will be reactivated. As you become stronger, you will most likely have the desire to (with increased ability) to participate in more vigorous activities, which will lead to greater health, weight loss and you will be less focused on what you consume as your metabolism will be more forgiving. The more reasonable your diet lifestyle is the more prone you are to stick with it. Keys To Success The first key to success is realistic SMART goals. A goal without being specific, measurable, achievable/ realistic and with a time frame is not a goal. It’s an idea and if you do not want to take the time to draw this out, you are not ready to make your idea a reality. The second key to success is having a plan. As discussed previously, without experts in the field you are looking to master, the plan is doomed to fail. Every successful person in this world has a team of experts, coaches, and advisors around them. No one is truly successful without the help of others. If you really think about it, try to name someone who is successful without some guidance and help along the way. If you do name someone, perhaps you do not know their full story in how to get there. The third key to success is being accountable. Let’s face it. There are days when the most successful individuals may not want to get out of bed or move forward. But if you have items to check off your plan for the day, there is no excuse not to. Do you know why “life” is always getting in the way? It’s because we are living life. We are a part of it. It’s always there. It’s always around. It always will be. You have the choice to use external events as justification to fail or you can make sure your plan happens daily as it should. There are people who will find justifications and excuses to make failure easier in their minds. They make up 95% of people on this earth. The other 5% find ways to overcome whatever is going on to make the impossible- possible. The word, “impossible” is spelled, “I M possible”. Success stories are not created for fairy tales or magazines. Success stories are yours if you make it happen. The law of attraction does in fact work whether you believe it or not. But the missing link in it is creating your reality. Sitting on the couch all day dreaming of a beautiful family, large home in a warm state, enjoyable and rewarding career, etc., is not going to cut it.
