How is it some individuals can exude success on a regular basis? Why is it some individuals touch something and it always turns to gold? These individuals commit. These individuals keep moving their feet forward towards a goal. Their plan may have to adapt along the way but they keep moving towards that goal.
In working with some athletes, I found this past week their objective results were far exceeding the previous week. On one level, it would seem like a great session. On another aspect, I found it to be a difficult week as they all ended up at some point with their heads down. When the head goes down the entire mind goes down.
In working with some top athletes, I noticed that even when we achieve new levels of achievement, there can be cause for concern. During difficult times, the head may go down. In doing this enough, poor habits are being created and as a result, this may be the final achievement and it may not necessarily be in the event they are working for.
While a quarterback may strengthen his arm and improve his quickness and ability to read the defense; he may be throwing harder and more precise than ever. But if the playoffs come about and he has developed bad habits along the way, it won't matter how phenomenal of an athlete he is and has evolved into. It wont matter how far he can throw the ball or how fast he can run. If his head goes down, so too does his entire game. It will effect him when it matters most. Keep your head up. It will do wonders for your efforts.
The alternative is to say that I am too busy with work and building Functionised Integrative Therapeutics, I am too busy with the patients and clients, I am too busy with my three children and with my wife (Beauty, Brains, Brawn) the Director of Cognitive Performance at Functionised, Chantea Goetz. Then there's my parents, illness, injuries, children in third world countries.....
Then I will beat myself up for failing. If I still show up the day of the competitions and I do not perform as I expect, I will know I did not give that 100% effort. Then I will mentally beat myself up. I will set new adventageous goals. The cycle will remain the same. Failure is inevitable. Is this you? Is this your history? What are you going to do to change? Are you willing to change? This choice is yours. But if you are willing to change. If you are willing to feel the uncomfortable as you have not done something before, let me know. Tell me about it. Since you have never done it alone, you won't. Let's do it together. I promise you if you give your 100% effort, I will give you mine. Commit. Jump in. It's time.
