The mad scientist Jim Goetz and Beauty, Brains, Brawn Chantea Goetz hang out with Liz Murphy and podcast about being a better version of yourself and Live Functionised.
It took many years of struggle, but Elizabeth Murphy (Red Bank Red) understood her own courage in order to share her story with us and the world. Liz shares her story to help other women develop their bodies, minds and voices.
Until the age of 30, Elizabeth Murphy never felt comfortable in her own skin. She believes she was a late bloomer at everything from her body to athletics. Liz was genetically thin but still had body image concerns. During the difficult time in a kids life (puberty), Elizabeth felt stunted as compared to her peers. She took the hurt of under development to heart as she watched her peers grow and develop from girls into women. This caused Liz to lack confidence and feel unattractive. During college, Elizabeth Murphy gained 10 lbs during her first semester. As a result, she began to diet and was able to lose those pounds. She believed that if 10 lbs was good, more was better. At this point, Elizabeth began a very unhealthy relationship with her body. She began to deprive it, starve it and loathe her body. As a result, she continued to shrink. Within no time, her hip bones became more prominent and she stopped normal hormonal cycles. Despite outside influences from those who cared, Liz was determined to stay immensely thin. At the age of 24, Elizabeth Murphy realized she was living in her own prison that she had created. She realized she was turning down social invitations from her small circle of friends, left gatherings early and came to the conclusion she was living in fear. It took Liz another 6 years to cultivate a positive relationship between her body and food. It was a very slow process that took letting go of damaging beliefs about herself and about food. Much credit is given to her now husband who, "always made me feel beautiful and encouraged me to be myself". Elizabeth Murphy now uses her experiences to help other women and shares her story with them so they may be a better version of themselves. |
